Domestic Electrical Services

From a single additional socket to lighting the whole house, we handle domestic electrical work across Kendal, the Lake District and North Lancashire.

Domestic electrical work, done properly

Most of the calls we take are from homeowners who need something specific and want it done without fuss: a socket where there isn't one, outside lights that work reliably through a Cumbrian winter, a kitchen refit that needs the circuits moving. We handle all of it, and every job leaves with the correct certification.

Older housing stock across this area brings its own quirks. Kendal's limestone terraces, the Victorian villas around Windermere and the stone-built cottages through the Dales were rarely wired with modern living in mind. We're used to working in properties where cable routes are awkward, walls are solid, and the customer would rather not have chases cut through a period feature. Where there's a tidier way to do it, we'll suggest it before we start.

What we cover

  • Sockets and power — additional double sockets, USB outlets, dedicated appliance circuits, garden and garage supplies
  • Lighting — downlights, outdoor and security lighting, two-way switching, LED upgrades and dimmer installation
  • Electric showers — supply, installation and the dedicated protected circuit they require
  • Kitchen and bathroom electrics — cooker circuits, extractor fans, IP-rated bathroom fittings and shaver points
  • Outdoor electrics — garden lighting, outbuilding supplies, weatherproof sockets and hot tub connections
  • Fault finding — tripping circuits, intermittent faults and diagnosing problems other electricians have left unresolved

What to expect

For anything beyond a straightforward job we'll visit first, look at what's actually there, and give you a written quote. That visit costs you nothing and there's no obligation attached to it. We'd rather price a job accurately than guess over the phone and revise it halfway through.

On the day, we turn up when we say we will. Floors get covered, dust is kept under control, and we clear up before we leave. It sounds like a small thing, but it's the single most common comment we get from customers.

Common questions

Do I need a certificate for electrical work in my home?

For most notifiable work, yes. Any new circuit, a consumer unit replacement, or work in a bathroom or outdoors must be notified to building control and certified. We handle that registration as part of the job and issue your certificate on completion. Keep it safe — you will need it when you sell the property.

Can you add a socket without making a mess?

Usually, yes. Where a surface route or an existing cavity can be used we will take that option, and we always discuss the routing with you before any chasing starts. In solid stone or period properties we will talk through the trade-off between a hidden cable and a preserved feature.

How much does it cost to add an outside socket or garden lighting?

It depends on the distance from the consumer unit, whether the route is accessible, and what protection the circuit needs. That is precisely why we visit and quote rather than publish a fixed price — an honest figure needs eyes on the job.

Do you work on older properties?

Frequently. A large share of housing across Kendal, the Lakes and the Dales predates modern wiring standards, and we are comfortable working around solid walls, lath and plaster, listed features and legacy wiring.
